One big issue in the making of products from cattle is that hormones are being added to dairy cattle in order to make them grow faster and produce more milk. The U.S government stated that the hormones are safe and do not lead to any cancerous bacteria. Either way, hormones are a risk to the younger generation, where many kids are now eating lost of fast food. This can cause a rapid growth in a child leading to further maturing problems.
Personally, I know a young boy who loved to eat lots of hot dogs. He was ten years old at that time and suddenly he began maturing way to fast. At first, his mother thought it was just that age where he's going into teenage hood . Unfortunately he began growing facial hair at the age of eleven. Something was wrong, and it was. Do to him eating hot dogs so often, the hormones implanted in the meat caused a rapid development in his system. Automatically the doctor demanded , that he no longer eats any of the products for a while. Even if we look at teenagers now, they look so mature, way beyond their age. We all should be concerned with the choices in food we make.
There is many natural and organic markets opening up. It might be a bit expensive, but when it comes to our health we shouldn't be careless. Simple things as reading the labels, finding out where this product has been made can really improve our way of eating. Also, researching sites where people gather together to ban hormones being implanted in cattle, and support. The more people take charge, the more change will come. People really need to realize that hormones implanted in cattle means, hormones implanted in humans. Again, take a stand read the label and do not continue to support the unsafe way of making our everyday meat products.

The Fast Food Industry and Children
The success of a fast food business owner depends on how many
costumers come in and buy the products, and how well it progresses profit
wise. Just like in the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, a business
wants to become a "Trusted Friend" to its customers, making them feel
safe and welcomed. The problem in the growth of most fast food
companies is that they target children. How do we know that? If you look at the
beginning of McDonalds, it started with burgers but next came toys in kids’
meals and playgrounds. Children had been targeted to grow up loving McDonald's
products, so that they would be customers for life. It is important for kids to
not grow up around fast food, so that they don't risk their health before they
get to adulthood.
McDonald's strategy aimed for a family crowd. Kroc's idea to promote McDonalds
to children was a clever decision. Kroc the owner of McDonalds explained “A
child who loves out television commercials, brings their grandparents to a
McDonald's, giving us two more customers,"(Fast Food Nation.) This was the
first successful fast food business that we know of. Now days, there is plenty
just like McDonalds just waiting to bring in as much customers and profit as
possible. Everyone is competing with each other, how much money can be
made, and who shall we target next? A child sounds perfect!
As a child grows up, it’s supposed to explore the world, learn new things and
be happy. But when a child explores fast food, becomes obsessed with the
product and is drawn to want it
Ewa 2
more due to constant advertisement, his/her mind is
overwhelmed. When children start to eat fast food at a young age, it becomes
they only type of food they are aware of. Personally, being a customer at
McDonalds from time to time, it’s obvious that I don't find anything high
on vegetable. Even if it comes to a salad, it’s just as much calories as a
burger due to the greasy chicken and dressing on top of the lettuce. Most fast
foods do not include fresh vegetables, or fresh salads on menus. The
problem gets worse, the stomach expands due to the over oil soaked meat and
fries and it continues to grow over the years. It is hard for adults to
resist grabbing a good looking burger with fries, so it must be even harder for
children. How do you explain to a child that it’s not good for them, if the
advertisements and toys in meals are showing them it’s great. Every business
practices these strategies but what about the future? How will the children
grow out of their bad habits?
When
we walk into a fast food restaurant we smell the flavors from the fryers.
Everyone is welcoming, encouraged by the boss to drawn customers in with a bit
of a fake smile. Above we see the menu, all lighted up bright, looking better
than in reality, and on the side before the counter in the toy stand. Once in a
while a new coffee is invented “extra caramel", drawing in the coffee
lovers. About everything you desire can be found in a local McDonalds, only
with about twice more sugar and fat added. It all affects our ways of
eating, worsening our health, as we can recognize the way we feel after a while
of eating fast food.

Sources to use :
- The use of hormones as production aids is permitted in North American countries but is no longer allowed in the European Union (EU), which also prohibits the importation of beef and its products derived from hormone-treated cattle. These actions have resulted in a trade dispute between the two trading blocs.
-Particular considerations include the low quantities of hormonal compounds consumed in meat products and their relationships to endogenous production particularly in prepubertal children, enterohepatic inactivation, cellular receptor- and non-receptor-mediated effects and potential for interference with growth, development and physiological function in consumers.
-Classical oestrogen-receptor mediation is considered to stimulate proliferation in cells maintaining receptivity. Mathematical models describing quantitative relationships between consumption of small amounts of oestrogens in meat in addition to greater concentrations from endogenous production, chemical stoichiometry at cellular level and human pathology have not been developed.
-The other hormones, although generally less well researched, are similarly subject to a range of tests to determine potentially adverse effects.
-The present review considers the hormone issue in the context of current international social methodology and regulation, recent advances in knowledge of biological activity of hormones and current status of science-based evaluation of food safety and risk for human consumers.

-Nutrition and growth during infancy are an emerging issue because of their potential link to metabolic health disorders in later life. Moreover, prolonged breast-feeding appears to be associated with a lower risk of obesity than formula feeding. Human milk is a source of various hormones and growth factors, namely adipokines (leptin and adiponectin), ghrelin, resistin and obestatin, which are involved in food intake regulation and energy balance. These compounds are either not found in commercial milk formulas or their presence is still controversial. Diet-related differences during infancy in serum levels of factors involved in energy metabolism might explain anthropometric differences and also differences in dietary habits between breast-fed (BF) and formula-fed (FF) infants later in life, and may thus have long-term health consequences.

-Discusses the effects of hormones used to fatten beef cattle in the United States on the environment. Idea that many of the hormones pass through the cattle into the water table;
-Many cattle are fed the same muscle-building androgens-usually testosterone surrogates-that some athletes consume. Other animals receive estrogens, the primary female sex hormones, or progestins, semiandrogenic agents that shut down a female's estrus cycle. Progestins fuel meat-building by freeing up resources that would have gone into the reproductive cycle.
-So far, almost all concern about this practice has focused on whether trace residues of these hormones in the meat have human-health consequences. But there's another way that these powerful agents can find their way into people and other animals. A substantial portion of the hormones literally passes through the cattle into their feces and ends up in the environment, where it can get into other food and drinking water.
Some scientists say that it's time to better manage livestock's hormone-laced waste stream, which has flowed unabated in North America for decades.
As much as anyone, John A. McLachlan knows what's been happening. He first became interested in livestock hormones in the early 1970s, when he learned that farmers were giving the synthetic hormone diethylstilbestrol (DES) to chickens and cattle. This synthetic estrogen chemically castrates male animals, enabling them to grow faster. At the time, McLachlan's own studies at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) used animal models to investigate why DES fostered the development of cancer in daughters of women treated to avoid miscarriages.

Obesity is a multifactorial condition with syndromic and nonsyndromic variants. Genetic, social, ethnic, endocrinologic, and behavioral issues are all potential etiologic factors. Preventive efforts should begin with monitoring from birth and include breastfeeding until age 6 months, avoiding juices, and promoting fruit and vegetable consumption and adequate exercise. Childhood obesity is diagnosed based on body mass index; a child is considered overweight at the 85th to 95th percentiles and obese at or above the 95th percentile. After obesity is diagnosed, testing should include blood pressure levels, fasting lipid profile, diabetes screening, and liver function tests. The physician should obtain a detailed history of the physical activity level and food intake and assess possible complications of obesity, including depression and hypertension, annually.Source 5:Hormonal Regulation of Farm animal Growth.

Now a days, working parents find themselves not having the time to give their children all of the attention. This absence of attention from parents lead to a time known as "The Decade of the Child Consumer." Children began nagging their parents into buying them things. In the book " Kids as Costumers", McNeal mentions the different ways children nagged their parents. There was pleading , persistent, forceful, demonstrative, sugar coated, threatening, and pitiful nagging that demonstrated different actions. To me that sounds pretty creative. Different ways of asking until you finally get what you want.

"Nostalgic childhood memories of a brand will lead to a life time of purchase." . Is this kind of strategy a fair way to go?.How does it affect the minds of our young children.

When Ray Kroc and Walt Disney began working together, they both believed that " brand loyalty" starts as early as the age of two. Young children who are drawn to fun, exciting looking things loved what Disney and McDonald's had to offer. Toys, attraction in play lands was all a child looked for. When toys were included in meals and new attractions in Disney Land were built, the child interest increased. Meals came with Pokémon cards, Cabbage Patch Kids, and Tamogetchis , " ( Your Trusted Friend 47) . McDonald's built "play lands who brought in kids, kids who brought in parents, and parents who brought in money." Of course, having play lands or toys in meals didn't have much harm to the child's mind. It all meant fun. But what about all the other things around, such as TV and advertisements.
It's believed that every American child spends twenty- one hours a week watching TV. About thirty thousand TV commercials(Your Trusted Friend 47.) Due to ads for children, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) tried to ban television ads aimed at children saying that " they cannot protect themselves, against adults who exploit their present-mindedness"( The American Way 46.) Supporters such as American Academy of Pediatrics, National Congress of Parents and Teachers and Consumer Union tried to prevent the occurrence of TV ads to be less often showed. Unfortunately, the National Association of Broadcasters attacked to prevent any restrictions on ads.
Nostalgic childhood memories do follow children into their adult hood. Inventions of newer more exciting toys in McDonalds, and attractions in Disney Lands do bring a lot of profit. Constant advertisements on television are for sure a negative effect on a child's mind. There is only so much a parent can do, such as restrict television time. Once a child sees something they like, it will be hard to forget.

Blog 4 : Brand Identification
Bare Minerals Makeup and Products. It was not always the first brand of products I have used when it comes to makeup. There was many different ones such Garnier , L'Oreal and FIT, all served to cover up and make you feel beautiful. In fact, they were great in masking natural skin and making it look picture perfect. Yet, after every use, my skin felt trapped behind layers of foundation, but what could I do when it was just perfect in covering up what I didn't want to show.
Ever since I was young, I had visible scares on my face. Everyone use to ask me, "how did you get those?", or "what happened?. Of course, my mom use to say " I cant see anything," but that was my mom, she just wanted to make me feel better. It was tough for me, but when I got into reach with makeup, it changed everything. I began to use it in order to cover up. I was a bit too young , just beginning eight grade, to be using so much of makeup. But I looked better, maybe even felt more confident. Makeup became my obsession. Buying new foundations, and skin product was exciting. Something new to try out, constantly hoping " maybe this one will make me look even better."
I remember how much I stood out too. A young girl like me wearing makeup to cover up, why.?
Everyone is school brought attention to what I was wearing on my face, like I was not aware of it myself. I began to feel trapped, layers of makeup covering up my true look. It bothered me with everything I did. Simple things like working out with makeup. Clearly working out on my own, or with people who had seen me without makeup before wasn't a problem. It was another story for those who knew me as a girl who always wore foundation. When the makeup came off, the questions kept on coming. I was tired of it all. Until my best friend introduced me to a product called "Bare Minerals."
This one was special. After the first use, I could feel my skin breathing even with the foundation on. I felt more open. There was no more hiding my real skin. I looked great and felt great as the time went by. Overall the appearance of my scars went away, and till this day I cant let go of it. I find my true match that helped me feel free.
